Offering $2 tacos all night long, El Centro D.F. knows how to celebrate Taco Tuesday! There is a rotating chef’s selection each week of three tacos available at the special price, and you can generally find them listed on Twitter earlier in the day.
We started with the Ceviche de Mojarra (good, albeit the citrus was a little overpowering) and the guacamole (fresh). The tacos aren’t big, so I tried one of each of the weekly specials: chicken heart, grilled nopal (vegetable) and chicken tinga tacos. I was excited to try the chicken heart, but it was extremely bland (very little sauce and not much to otherwise dress up the taco); the chicken tinga was very good.
Cocktails: $$ My favorite cocktail is the Watermelon Agua Fresca, which I enjoyed during an all you can eat brunch excursion earlier this year. Overall, cost is about average for the area — cocktails will put you back about $9-12 or you can get a 1/2 carafe of margaritas that will serve three for $22. A good selection of tequila (200+) and tequila tastings are available with a reservation.
Food : $$ The taco specials are limited, but since they rotate you can try a new one each week! The rest of the menu is also very reasonably priced, so you won’t break the bank if the tacos aren’t your thing. If you want to try a wider variety of dishes, I recommend the all you can eat/all you can drink brunch for $35. Although the dishes are a bit too similar to one another (cheese and eggs, eggs with cheese) they are all good, and the drinks are the real thing. How many all you can drink brunches have you been to that are all you can drink orange juice with a splash of champagne? Not here!
Taco Tuesday Specials: $2 tacos all night (three options, rotating weekly)
Atmosphere: I’ve sat in the basement every time I’ve been. Although a bit dark and gloomy, there are larger tables for big groups and it’s not as crowded so that you can actually hear each other talk. Can be dangerous for brunch however, when after 4-7 tequila drinks (how can you count when they just keep filling them?!) you forget it’s only two in the afternoon.
Service: I’ve had only good experience with managers and servers when I’ve been.
